153 // End of Year Review with David Kern

If you’re a client, this conversation will give you insight into what’s happening with Wealthquest and what to look forward to in 2022. If you’re not a client, or you’re an advisor, hopefully, some of these ideas or thoughts here might apply to you. We always want to lead and move the industry forward – not just for us, but for the client.

Today we’re going to do what we tell people to do all the time: reflect and assess where we’re going in the new year. This year felt vaguely familiar but with so much change and uncharted territory. Our team did an amazing job with how much of 2020 spilled over into 2021.

What’s New at Wealthquest

We’ll start by framing the conversation around the Wealthquest core values, and the first one is that we are leaders. We strive to be thought leaders, and this year we launched the Wealthquest Learning Center where we held powerful seminars. James has spoken on living a rich life in the age of worry, and it was so timely with the year we lived through. As we invited clients and people into these events, our community expanded.

In 2021 we also began our project on estate plans. We created a process of condensing down 80-100 page estate plan documents into 2-pages to review with clients and update that documentation. It’s a common problem that estate documents become out of sight out of mind. Our goal in 2022 is to have everyone buttoned up, updated, and accurate in their paperwork.

We want to be better at looking at the next 12 months – what do clients want to accomplish, and how can we help them take directional steps? We launched this initiative towards the end of the year. What would it look like for clients to feel like they are moving forward? To answer that, we needed a process everyone can get familiar and comfortable working with. That is the kind of conversation that gets people to book the tickets for the trip they said they’d be taking right now or the experience with their kids or grandkids.

Another change for Wealthquest in 2021 was that we dropped a pin in Naples, Florida! Adam is leading the charge down there (David wishes him a terribly cold winter.) Something he has been surprised to learn is that the Wealthquest mission of wanting to coordinate everything for you so that you don’t have to think about it anymore, that’s not happening down there. It’s a fun challenge for Adam to engage with new clients and change their expectations.
